Bye Bye Car

Yesterday I had some good news. My friend in Wagga, Luke, is going to buy my Falcon Station Wagon off me.

I have been trying to sell it for a little while and I am glad that I have finally sold it. Although it was a good car it is quite draining on the finances having to register, insure, service etc etc a second car.

Whilst it is good that I have sold it, some things I really liked about the station wagon were:

- It would seat 5 people comfortably on a long trip.

- I had lots of good times with friends and youth group going on adventures all over the place.

- You can put all sorts of stuff in the back. It was especially good for those trips to Bunnings where you need to transport long sections of timber home.

- It was pretty inexpensive to buy in the first place (I got it from my old work at the trade in price) at $9000.

- After owning it for 3 years and having done 50000kms in it, I sold it for $6000 which means that it has only depreciated $1000 a year (pretty good for a car of it's type).

- You can sleep in the back. The roominess isnt great but it is a great option in a pinch.

- I did my first adventure drive (along the coast to adelaide and back along the Sturt) in it and for the 3000 or so km's I drove I never had a problem.

- Oh, and this picture reminded me that it also can tow things! :)

So although it is gone (well it will be as of Saturday) it has well and truly earnt it's place on the cool wall of cars I have owned.

St Mix Weekend away

Last weekend was the St Mics getaway.
We went to a Christian campsite in Nowra, near the river. It is the same spot we go every year and I reckon it's a great place.
I finished work Friday night and drove up to the camp. The drive there was partly dull (expressway) and partly awesome (from Illawarra highway to Nowra). It didnt take too long though.
The weekend was really good. It was great to catch up with some of the dudes and especially good when it came to a few I hadnt seen in ages. One of the most encouraging parts of the weekend was how happy people were to see me. It was a good challenge for my perception of how people see me.
The topic of the weekend was 'Friends' and we spoke about the friendships that people have at church. One pressing issue was the one of 'clicky' groups at church and we talked about a number of things related to that.
We had 3 main talks and I guess they were:
1/ What was Jesus like to the people around him and what does he say about the way to treat people.
2/ Putting your faith into action by being loving to your fellow Christians.
3/ Putting your faith into action by being loving to non-Christians.
There were a number of related topics discussed but in 3 lines I would say that if asked.
All in all it was an awesome weekend and I am very glad I went.
