Then till now

What has been happening lately? Short answer - not much, long answer - Also not much.
I will, however, attempt to fill in the details so as to not be too dull. Maybe I will comment on a few areas of life as well.
Last weekend I was sick. I dont get sick very often but I still hate it. What I mean is that I dont get so sick I have to take days off work or cant make it to things very often. In fact over my working life (including working while at uni) I can probably count on both hands the amount of days off I have had for being sick (not counting nose fixing operation).
So, being sick I couldnt go to sport or the gym coz my head hurt whenever I moved it around too quickly. After waking up at about 1:00Pm, I stayed in bed and finished reading "The DaVinci Code" and may I say what a pile of crap. Dont get me wrong, as a story teller and book writer, Dan Brown is really good. I quite enjoyed the book from that point of view but the historical and theological 'facts' that he explains with an air of unshakable certainty were pretty ordinary (actually just plain wrong). If I hear about the sacred feminine one more time I think I will throw up (either that or try and castrate Dan Brown). I think I will write a more in depth review on my thoughts as a later post.
After that I layed on the couch under my doona with the heater on and watched movies for the rest of the day (till 4:30). I had borrowed "King Arthur" and "The usual suspects" off Matt (ChinDoGu) which were quite good. "King Arthur" was a standard Jerry Bruckheimer movie with action and standard 'good guys win' action. No real twists and fairly formulaic. I still like movies like that and find them fairly entertaining. On the other hand "The usual suspects" was very clever and thought out. Not your standard movie. Had a great ending.
At 5:00 met the boys in town and we watched the rugby union final. Quite entertaining, though the Waratahs lost. Tim and I went to Macca's and got soft serve cones and went to 'The girl's house' and watched Star Wars episode 4. I thought it was good watching it thinking back to 3. I want to watch 6 again and see the emperor die. His death is so much more meaningful now we know the full story.
Role played on Monday night. I think the Bard wasted about 45 minutes of game time singing songs for people and being rediculously too careful in finding our contact who, was pointed out to me when I got jack of it and just asked the bartender. He said "that guy over there". Ohh well. It was pretty fun and I am really getting into it. Looking forward to next session. It's also comforting to know that Sally's character is there to look after me. Shame a L2 Wizard has been more effective in combat than a Shifter Barbarian... ;).
As for general things, bible study is going well. We studied Revelation Chapter 7 this week and we are going through the book at a blistering pace (not). It has promoted lots of good discussion and I think generally it has been helpful for those involved. This weeks discussion included the 144000 and who they were. We had a few options. Some said they could be old testament 'Christians', others thought they could be Christians alive when Jesus returns. I think generally the overall consensus was that they were the whole people of God who were sealed. The 144000 turn up later on in the book as well and we kind of agreed to keep chewing through before we solidified our thoughts.

Hey,

I heard that Dan Brown wasn't a very good story teller and considering the actual content of the book I thought it wasn't worth reading. So, as a Christian, why did u think it was worthwhle to read the book? (or if not worthwhile, why did you want to read it?)

Well, I think a big part of it being worthwhile was that being that the book is a hot topic at the moment it is now much easier for me to talk with a non-Christian about it having read it. For Christians to read for their own benefit I would think it is a waste of time (unless you ignore half the book) but as for being informed of what issues the book raises/adresses it was quite helpful to know.
It's kind of like studying other religions. Good to know what they are on about so you know the differences between them and Christianity.

I've just finsihed reading the book. (I felt I should read it - because if I am going to comment on it, I don't think I should comment from ignorance).

But having said that, leaving aside the historicial questions for a moment, I just found it a dissappointing read. It wasn't well written, its reads like a film script - full of sound, and fury, signifying, or perhaps saying nothing.

I quite enjoyed the story for what it was- I found it really easy to read and as for a book which everyone is reading, I am impressed (that is any book which has become sooooooo popular that many people are reading and talking about it, I am impressed with). It is like Harry Potter- everyone has heard of it and most people have read it. I also think it is important as a Christian to read it and to know what it says AND what the bible and history says about it so that if people are discussing it or believing it then I am prepared to talk to them about it. I still enjoyed it though!!!
